Coffee Klatsch: A Discussion About the Biden-Harris Plan for Tribal Nations
While Indigenous voters are often overlooked, Native communities and other voters of color were key in flipping several swing states to Biden in the 2020 election. Now, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are coming into office with a Plan for Tribal Nations that begins with a stated recognition of tribal sovereignty, self-governance, and the federal trust responsibility to Tribal Nations. In December, the Biden transition team nominated NM Rep. Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior. She would be the first Native American person to serve as a Cabinet Secretary and have vast responsibilities overseeing land, water, and tribal issues.

Members are invited to join Confluence Philanthropy and moderator, Jodi Archambault, for a discussion about what a Biden-Harris Administration could mean for Tribal Nations and for the country as a whole. How can we, as investors, foster accountability from the Biden team? Most importantly, how can allies and accomplices show reciprocity to Indigenous communities for their critical role in securing democracy for all of us?

We will share reading material in advance to ensure we maximize the productivity of our time together. This is a great conversation for anyone interested in investing in Indigenous communities and who wants to engage in this new era.
